Hi, I'm Matt Jakob.
At a young age I started out in mathematics but eventually design pulled me in, combining problem-solving with building in the real world.
I design and build products for people to enjoy and remember driven by the idea that good design is an act of care and optimism.
Currently serving as Principal Product Design Director at PayPal, shaping the consumer app into a connected global commerce platform for 430M+ customers.
Previously I led Nike's global team at R/GA NYC shaping work that moved culture through design across brand and product.
At Meta, I launched several 0→1 products and features for millions of users on Messenger and Instagram that shifted how people connect through video calling and messaging.
I also taught a class at The Bartlett, UCL on morphogenetic design.
Outside my day role, I run a personal design practice scaling my coding knowledge through AI to build new tools and products, like this one. It reflects my belief that the next wave of creativity belongs to people who design with intelligence and build with intuition.
I mentor designers, share what I learn and help teams find clarity.
Mostly, I stay curious and focus on solving hard problems with craft, rigor, and care.
